Wolf Creek Cove

Recently, while going through old files, I came across work I’d done for Wolf Creek Cove, an event and wedding venue in Black Mountain, NC, where we used to live. I wore so many hats there, from tours, bookings and event planning to public relations, marketing and even writing feature stories for local publications.

I reached out to the owners, Alice and Lee, and in a few clicks discovered their home was for rent. I knew something had changed. After a few emails, I was connected with their children, who shared the news that both Alice and Lee had passed away.

Over the years while living in NC, the Johnsons had become like family. I have so many memories of the property, walking the creek, sitting in the screened-in summer house, spending afternoons giving tours and helping couples envision their wedding day. One of my favorite memories is that Alice and Lee generously allowed us to hold our baby shower there. I can still recall so much laughter from that evening.

We moved away from that area 14 years ago, and like with so many relationships, I assumed there would always be time to reconnect. I’ve been reminded not to make that assumption.

I’m grateful to now be connected with the Johnson children and thankful for the chapter Alice and Lee were part of in my life.

If you’re planning a trip to Western North Carolina and looking for a beautiful place to stay, please consider Wolf Creek House on AirBnB or directly through Blue Mont Stays.

To me, it will always be Wolf Creek Cove. Filled with the beauty of nature and two people I will not forget.
